A ‘pearl’ for Valencia
{mb_sdlf_jugador_SDLF-jugador_frase-destacada}Berta Pujadas arrives in Valencia after completing excellent seasons with Espanyol and Barça.
“The pearl of Barça, Berta Pujadas, sets course for Espanyol“. With that headline ‘Mundo Deportivo’ took notice of one of the most famous signings of summer 2017 in women’s football. At 17, the Marcet cadette reached the First Division as one of the players with the greatest projection on the international scene.
“She’s had an amazing career so far and is really making a name for herself,” read the mentioned Barcelona newspaper. Words that would be endorsed by Berta’s brilliant performances both with the parakeet team and with the Spanish National Team, which would earn her subsequent signing for Valencia. Another goal met for a girl who began to stand out when she bore the Marcet colours.
“They were some superb years at all levels”, Yolanda Boix reminisced, the mother of the centre back. “You can have qualities, but if you’re not able to develop them you’ll get stuck on the way”, pointing out to her training at Marcet. “Everything happened at once: she was called up for the Catalan U-12s, and in the same week we got the call from FC Barcelona. It was hard for Berta to leave Marcet”.
From there on it was all success. In 2015 she was called up to the Spanish squad to go to the U-17s European Championship that was held in Iceland. She started off by playing 20 minutes in their first match. Then for the rest of the games she was starter. She finished the tournament lifting the trophy with her team mates. An accomplishment to be added to two European Youth Championships and a third place at the U-17s World Cup held in Jordan.
Today Berta comments on her signing for Valencia: “It’s another step in my career, I face it with great enthusiasm. Espanyol has made me grow a lot on a footballing and on a personal level. After two seasons I can only say that I have been wonderfully at home, but I needed a change, new challenges to keep growing“.
