Gor Matinyan is a young Armenian promise: at his young age, he defends the goal of BKMA Yerevan and dreams of representing his country at the highest level.

Gor Matinyan, a left-footed goalkeeper standing at 1.89 meters with a sturdy physical build, finds his most important reference in the Spanish legend Iker Casillas, whom he highlights for his leadership. Graduating from the Football Academy of Yerevan (Armenia), he represented his nation in the U-17, U-19, and U-21 divisions.

“After completing my training in Yerevan, I decided to move to Marcet because it’s an excellent academy for goalkeepers,” recalls Matinyan. He explains about his progress: “I learned to be a professional. Marcet is very consistent, something I really valued. I acquired sports discipline, which will be useful in the future.”

Gor was named the best footballer in the Armenian League in July and August by Urish Football.

However, Gor believes that he not only acquired technical knowledge for the sport, but also values the human and social dimension of his time in Barcelona: “I vividly remember the meeting in Girona. I understood that Marcet is like a large football family. I have many friends with whom I still go out.”

His progress as a person and goalkeeper granted Gor a new opportunity to represent his country, this time in the U-21 team. Regarding what this responsibility means, he states, “Your entire being shivers when you put on the national team jersey. There is no better motivation than listening to your country’s anthem before a match; it is a different and unique emotion.”

After his time at Marcet, he had a valuable opportunity to sign with BKMA Yerevan, a club competing in the top category of Armenian football. The goalkeeper made his professional debut and has gained experience as a starter in his team, which is a significant challenge considering that many members of the Armenian national team play in this league.

U-21 Euro Cup Qualifiers: A big draw against Switzerland.

Just as he works with the same consistency and discipline that he emphasizes having developed at Marcet, Gor has clear short and medium-term goals: “My main goal is to represent my country in the senior team and, later on, play in one of the top five leagues in the world. But to achieve it, I know I must continue working,” he affirms.
