Misael Domínguez signs for Cruz Azul after debuting in Mexico’s first division at 17 years of age.

“The jewel of Monterrey arrives at Cruz Azul”. Thus the Mexican press made it known to the public that Misael Domínguez had transferred, leaving his hometown club for one of Mexico’s greatest. “The directors of Cruz Azul agreed to purchase 50% of the Saltillense’s sporting rights,” ‘Vanguardia’ reported, whilst including the midfielder among the “great reinforcers” of this squad for the next year.

At 18, Misael is used to burning through stages. “He was already kicking when he was in my belly,” said Karen Gonzalez, the player’s mother: “At the age of two he looked comfortable with the ball and by the time he was four we began to see the need for him to play in a team. After that, he began to travel around the country to participate in national tournaments, and then international competitions, like the Academies’ World Cup of Football, to which Misael went wearing the FC Guerreros jersey.

The World Cup, organized every summer at Marcet‘s facilities in Barcelona, is the ideal championship to see the most promising young football players in action. But this tournament, aimed at boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13, goes beyond the competition. The matches are always combined with High Technification courses specifically designed to provide players with the skills and values necessary to compete at the highest level. Misael not only participated in this prestigious championship, but he was proclaimed champion of the tournament with Guerreros.

On his return to Mexico, Saltillo‘s midfielder signed for Monterrey. He would stay with them for six seasons, during which time he was summoned to the lower categories of the Mexican National Team. At the age of 16 he reached a milestone, making his debut with the first Monterrey team in the Copa SocioMX. “I was very nervous when it came to jumping onto the pitch. As soon as I set foot on the grass, my teammates reassured me and gave me confidence,” the young man explains in an interview with ‘Triunfo Deportivo’. Monterrey lost that game, but Misael’s performance bodes well with the fans.

His debut in the First Division went even better. He didn’t have to wait long for it to pick up either. At 17, the Mexican midfielder had earned himself minutes in his first game of Liga MX, which ended with an astonishing (4-0) against Veracruz. So the newspaper ‘Record’ summarizes Misael’s first stage in Monterrey’s box: “Although Dominguez doesn’t exceed 1.60m, he stands out for his ability to play with his opponent’s imbalance, which earned him a reputation as one of the jewels of the Rayados squad during his stay.”

Now a new stage is on the horizon for the talented Saltillo midfielder. He will have to demonstrate what he’s worth in Cruz Azul, one of the most prestigious teams in his home country. The club plays no less than at Estadio Azteca in the Mexican capital, and now Misael’s dream is that this legendary coliseum rings to the tune of his spectacular plays.
