Víctor López Medel started his football career at an early age. “I began playing football at 3 years old, and until I was 7, I was specifically a central defender,” he recalls. However, he soon found his place: “I used to get very tired, so I switched to goalkeeper, and from 7/8 years old, I was a goalkeeper, it always suited me better.”
His time at the Marcet Academy marked a turning point in his development. “My experience at Marcet was unforgettable,” López Medel affirms. “It’s something I’d recommend to everyone. Living with people from all over the world and learning about cultures are very beautiful.” Beyond the cultural aspect, he highlights the impact on his professional development: “That’s where I began to understand football and know I was on the right path.”
After his training, López Medel has played for several clubs, accumulating valuable experience. “I learned many game models, how to be a second goalkeeper (since that’s also a position), to be consistent and disciplined,” he reflects on his previous stages. He highlights his achievements: “My favorite moment in football, apart from winning a league as a professional in Andorra, was last season (2023/2024) with Guadalajara, with my debut.”
López Medel will face a new challenge at Lincoln of Gibraltar. About this opportunity, he comments: “I expect to reach the Conference League group stage; we’re in the fourth round of the UEFA League, and winning one tie ensures we’ll be qualified.”
The Spanish goalkeeper is aware of his strengths and areas for improvement. “My greatest strengths are footwork, shot-stopping, one-on-ones, and a winning mentality,” he lists. However, he maintains an attitude of constant improvement: “What do I need to improve? Everything. No matter how good I am in one area, I must keep improving in all aspects.”
Looking to the future, Victor has ambitious goals. “I’ve always said it: At 28, I see myself winning a Champions League. I have something special with that number: representing my country,” he shares. And he adds with determination: “I think it’s every young person’s dream. The difference is that I work every day to make it happen, and I dream about it.”
Víctor López Medel’s career is a testament to perseverance and ambition in the world of football. From his casual beginnings to his position at Lincoln of Gibraltar, the Spanish goalkeeper continues working to achieve his highest goals in the sport.
